Gala Apples
As per Rick Neilson:
Our orchard connection has called with apple pricing for first pick field run Galas. Our target date for coming to St. George is the first weekend of September which is the 3-4. We will let you know for certain as the picking starts. These apples will be 2nd picking of the first pass, which means they will be on the tree for about a week longer than the first picking, which our orchard contact says allows them to ripen just a bit more and they'll be more flavorful. That all boils down to, they will be some of THE BEST coming out of the orchard. I called Wal-mart last week and they told me they were selling Gala apples for $1.25/lb. We are quoting 65 cents to 68 cents per pound and if you tried them from last year, you know how fresh and good they are. This is a great opportunity. The apples will be loose in the bins. Cash and check only. No cards. You will need to bring your own boxes and we will weigh them on site. We will be at the Bishop's Storehouse in St. George again. DO NOT CALL THE STOREHOUSE. THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE APPLES. Please let us know ASAP what you would like to order so we can load the truck accordingly. If you have questions, you can call me at 435-467-8222.
Thank you,
Rick Neilson
UPDATE:
Here is the update on the Gala apples. Our grower is holding off for about 1 week to let the apples ripen more, get more flavor and color. The picking is scheduled for 1 week from today and will put us at Labor day weekend for picking them up in Washington State. That will put the truck back in St. George around the Tuesday after labor day.
Plan your picking up schedule accordingly. We will keep you posted.

"Continue in Patience" President Uchtdorf
Jill Visser gave a great lesson on patience this week! Some quotes from the conference talk were read throughout the lesson and I thought I would pass them on for those who missed out.
1. Patience is the ability to put our desires on hold for a time.
2. Patience is a precious and rare virtue.
3. Patience is a purifying process that refines understanding.
4. Patience deepens happiness.
5. Patience focuses action.
6. Patience offers hope for peace.
7. Patience is far more than simply waiting for something to happen.
8. Patience is not passive resignation, nor is it failing to act because of our fears.
9. Patience means active waiting and enduring.
10. Patience is staying with something and doing all we can---working, hoping and exercising faith; bearing hardship with fortitude even when the desires of our hearts are delayed.
11. Patience is not simply enduring, it is enduring well.
12. Patience is a Godly attribute that can heal souls, unlock treasures or understanding and can transform ordinary men and women into saints and angels.
13. Patience is a fruit of the spirit.
14. Patience is staying with something till the end.
15. Patience is delaying gratification for future blessings.
16. Patience is reining in anger and holding back an unkind word.
17. Patience is resisting evil, even when it appears to be making others rich.
18. Patience means accepting that which cannot be changed and facing it with courage, grace, and faith. It means being "willing t o submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon us, even as a child doth submit to his father."
19. Patience is being "firm and steadfast and immovable, in keeping the commandments of the Lord."
20. Patience is a process of perfection.

Yummy Recipe
The following recipe was given to me on the night of our "Relief Society Meeting" back in May. Remember.... the one about gardening and yummy foods made with herbs. So I thought maybe I would be able to get ahold of a few more recipes served that night and I would wait a few days. No such luck, but THANK YOU!! Mindy Suttner for being on the ball and willing to share! And, sorry I am not a timely blogger to get this out there to everyone sooner.
Mindy’s Impression of Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscano (Potato Sausage Soup)
1 lb sausage pan fried into little balls
¼ lb bacon fried and crumbled
6 white potatoes chopped
1 onion chopped
1 pepper chopped
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 quart water
2 tablespoons chicken bouillon
2 cups chopped, frozen greens (I use spinach or kale)
1 cup heavy whipping cream
Salt, pepper, oregano, basil, parsley, onion powder, dried green onion to taste.
Fry bacon. Set aside. Fry sausage in bacon drippings. Set aside. Place remaining ingredients in heavy pot except greens and whipping cream. Boil on medium to low heat until vegetables are tender. Add sausage and bacon. Heat through. Add greens and cream. Heat through.
(If you use fresh greens, put them in with the potatoes and cook until tender).

Humanitarian Project
We are trying to get together Orphanage Kits to take to Haiti next week for a St. George based Charity called The Foundation for Children in Need. We would like to have everything gathered by THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4th. Please return the items to Amy Valerio’s house at 2487 East Meadow Mist Way with your name on it. The Young men and women are willing to pick up any items on Tuesday during their scavenger hunt (Please note, these are two different service projects!) Keep in mind that every little bit counts. If you can’t bring all that is required for an item, just do what you can. I know that many small donations will make for one big success. Thanks in advance for helping out the orphans that are struggling in Haiti.
An orphanage Kit is sustainable for 1 day at an orphanage. Please look over the list below and contact Amy by phone 628-3361/801-243-5422 or email her at amyv03@msn.com with what you would like to contribute.

Relief Society Meeting for January 2010!
In case you haven't heard, our "Enrichment" nights are now supposed to be called "Relief Society Meetings"--that's the word straight from the top! Not the most exciting name, but we will comply. Please watch for the monthly "Meetings" and know that they will be the same fun-filled nights to get out and get to know the sisters while learning something new!
First up in January we are going "Back to the Basics" and will be learning to do basic crocheting. Once you have learned the basics you will have opened up a whole new world. Edging on baby blankets, booties, hats, flowers and more. For this night, the projects will be Hot Pot Holders or Dish Cloths.
For Hot Pot Holders you will need yarn and a crochet hook size H.
Or for Easy Dishcloths you will 100% cotton yarn/4 ply. (sometimes called peaches and cream) and a crochet hook size I.
Meet at the church on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20th at 7:00 p.m. If you already know how to crochet or aren't interested in learning, bring a project of your own or just come have a girl's night out! Hope to see you there!
**If you have any questions contact Glenda Childs**
